Jatin Nathwani RCI Talk - Energy Innovations: A Disruptive Force for a Better World?
RCI Talks are intended to engage the broader public in fascinating discussions on various topics from the STEM fields. Jatin Nathwani is the founding Executive Director, Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy (WISE) as well as the founding Co-Director of the Affordable Energy for Humanity Global Change Initiative (AE4H) and holds the prestigious Ontario Research Chair in Public Policy for Sustainable Energy at the University of Waterloo.
Two key challenges of the global energy system will be with us for the rest of this century: the threat of climate change and the requirement to provide clean, affordable energy to every person on the earth for their needs. That there is an urgent need for a global transition to a low carbon energy future is clearly evident: what is less obvious is recognition of the importance of access to affordable energy as a fundamental enabler of human betterment.
Professor Nathwani will highlight the emerging innovations that form the basis of a scientific, technological and social innovations needed to support new talent and business models for revolutionary change to deliver on the promise of a low carbon energy future with universal energy access.
Our goal is the eradication of energy poverty.
The ‘Global Change Initiative– Affordable Energy 4 Humanity (AE4H)’ comprises of a consortium of 150+ leading energy access researchers and practitioners from 50 institutions and 25 countries.
Members of AE4H develop innovations and proliferate insights on technologies, policies, business models, socio-cultural issues, and many other aspects of clean energy deployment in communities facing energy poverty across the globe. AE4H brings members together through workshops, conferences and other meetings, on joint projects to scope and develop impactful interventions, and through supporting the involvement of students and other stakeholders in the emerging energy access sector.
